The Position

In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organisation (pRED), we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicines. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary life-changing innovation at speed.

pRED’s Pharmaceutical Sciences (PS) group enables discovery and development of safe and effective therapeutics at optimal doses in relevant populations with a vision to power translation, continuously improve the accuracy of our predictions and accelerate the development of tomorrow's medicines. PS supports discovery and development across the whole value chain from target assessment to on-market.

Job mission

This position is located in the Investigative Safety and Immunosafety (I2S) chapter where we help providing investigative, mechanistic, discovery immuno/safety profiling across experimental platforms. We closely collaborate with our therapeutic areas and global functions and we work along agile working principles that assure flexibility, empowerment and innovation.

In collaboration with the Proteomics 360 laboratory and the BioAnalytics and BioMarker chapters, we are seeking a Biochemist laboratory expert with a strong background in proteomics research using mass spectrometry. As part of the Immunosafety team, you will be actively involved in the generation and measurement of samples for the MHC-associated peptide proteomics (MAPPs) assay for assessing the immunogenicity risk of biotherapeutics candidates. The successful candidate will also work on sample preparation from various cell models (mammalian tissue culture, protein extraction, protein assays, etc.) and associated biofluids (cell supernatants, extracellular vesicles, etc) for proteomics analysis with various quantitative approaches (e.g., label-free, SILAC, TMT) using high-resolution tandem mass spectrometry.

As part of our dynamic team, you will:

  • Participate and conduct proteomics and immunopeptidomics analysis in collaboration with stakeholders in the I2S chapter and from the different therapeutic areas and functions, as needed.

  • Plan and discuss the experimental strategy with the stakeholders, team members, and data scientists.

  • Organize and execute proteomics experiments, including sample preparation, nano LC-MS/MS measurement using high-end mass spectrometric instrumentation, data processing and interpretation.

  • Provide reports and detailed data analysis to the stakeholders in a dynamic and flexible manner.

Who you are:

You are a talented, enthusiastic and motivated individual with an extensive practical experience in the mass spectrometry-based proteomics field. You have excellent scientific, communication and organizational skills, fully committed to team effort but able to work in an independent fashion. You bring your own expertise and strategies that you are ready to apply to solve challenging and interdisciplinary project problems in an agile environment.

You own the following qualifications:

  • You have a Bachelor's Degree or Master’s degree in Biological/Life Sciences, Biochemistry, or related field with 3-5 years of relevant work experience (no PhD).

  • Hands-on expertise in nano liquid chromatography - mass-spectrometry based proteomics is mandatory. Experience with Orbitrap MS (Q Exactive, Exploris, and/or Tribrids) is essential, and ion mobility (timsTOF Pro, FAIMS Pro) systems is an advantage, knowledge of Bravo liquid handler is a plus

  • You have hands-on experience with sample preparation for molecular biology experiments (mammalian tissue culture, protein extraction, protein assays, etc.) and with sample preparation for proteomics analysis with various quantitative approaches (e.g., label-free, SILAC, TMT).

  • Proficiency with common data processing software (Proteome Discoverer, MaxQuant, Spectronaut, PEAKS) and programming (e.g. R/Python) skills are a big plus.

  • You are able to keep proper experimental records, analyze, summarize and present data from your research.

  • You thrive in highly collaborative environments and you have strong and interpersonal skills. You have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
